Default Don't make incorrect assumptions

Thank you for the info. The length of the walk from the hotel to centro is important to me, not because it is "too much" physically, but because I may need to know whether it's convenient and easy to return to the hotel throughout the day (if I choose to) when visiting the shops, galleries, markets and sites. If the hotel is 10 blocks from centro, then that is a consideration for planning my trip, and not because of any physical limitations. I'm sure every walk in SMA is indeed delightful. Asking about where a hotel is located relative to the Jardin is not an indication that one necessarily has physical limitations; it is part of planning a trip. I may prefer to be closer to the Jardin for many reasons that have nothing to do with my physical abilities.

Making a statement such as: "If this little walk is too much then maybe SMA is not the place for you" is making a very incorrect assumption on your part.

Making a statement such as: "Probably the walk will do you good and hopefully you'll be glad you did it" is really not helpful, as you do not know anything about me, the type of travel I enjoy, or how I wish to spend my time on a visit to SMA. I have been all over the world as an independent traveler and walk many miles per day when traveling, but that is not the point. The point of my inquiry was to obtain accurate information about the location of a hotel in SMA for planning purposes.

Default Assumptions

I'm feeling the need to say something in response to the above posts, but I'm not sure what, except perhaps a request to be careful about assumptions from posts. Calling someone a "sissy" is uncalled for, though of course it was mild and meant in jest. Teasing does not come across well on the internet, even with emoticons!

Default I agree with you Traveler

Hola Traveler, I agree with you 100%. I walk everywhere in SMA for miles, for hours, every day I'm there. However, I stay in a habitación as close as possible to the jardin. As you said, after shopping it's convenient to run back to the room to drop packages, return from a day trip to shower & change for the evening etc. etc.

You spoke very well for yourself, so I know you don't need me to jump in here. But, the "sissy" post really got to me. I also feel if someone were physically limited, to walking three rather than six blocks, they should be able to visit SMA without guilt.

(out of respect for you Carol, I'm limiting my tirade. hope this was ok)

Traveler I hope you find a great, central place to stay & run up and down the hills and back to your B&B. nichomaria

Default Clearing the air?

I agree with Carol that we all should exercise caution about our assumptions when writing. Unless we truly know the other person well, it's pretty hard to know exactly what the other person has in mind.

The thing that nearly made me choke was the comment about the "fresh (pollution-free) air." I'm sorry - I love San Miguel dearly. And while I would never equate the air quality there with that of LA, Houston, New York or Mexico City, there is no way I would call what I breathed in Centro on my last trip either fresh or pollution-free. Let's get real, folks.

Now take a little trip up into the mountains around Santa Rosa between Guanajuato and Dolores Hidalgo - that's fresh and pollution-free air!

Default Walking in SMA

Finally having straightened out my password I can post, after years of lurking.

My husband and I spent February 07 in a nice little casita off Orizaba....very reasonable. But despite the "10-15 Minute" walk to Jardin which was advertised it was somewhat of a hike. It IS important where you stay. We liked San Antonio fine, but you didn't just "pop uptown" in a moment. You will walk miles anyway, I always do on a trip. Maybe you don't want a lot of the mileage to be just getting where you are going.
Not everyone can stay within 3 blocks of the Jardin, not everyone wants (or is able) to walk 10 blocks; the convenience of being close is is a big consideration. Then of course price is related to closeness....in most or all cases.

Does anyone have Maricela's e-mail or web site? I am planning to visit SMA and would love to check her prices to plan my budget!

Default great b and b

We are friends with Marisela and have enjoyed many great meals with her. Her rooftop terrace is wonderful in the afternoon. We always recommend it to our friends and they have also enjoyed her hospitality. Great food, great hostess, great view and close to the jardin. Ben
